ENGINE EQUIPMENT

Responsible for rolling stock, the Equipment Department guarantees the industrial performance of locomotives and wagons which ensure the quality of service provided to customers. This business department manages the maintenance of powered and towed rolling stock. She also supervises the engineer when purchasing new equipment.

The Rolling Stock Department system is provided by 378 agents spread across five maintenance centers:

  • The Bassa workshops, with an area of ​​330,400 m2, centralize the vast majority of maintenance operations, including the carrying out of general overhauls and the rehabilitation of equipment,
  • The Douala – Bessengue, Yaoundé, Belabo and Ngaoundéré maintenance depots for line maintenance and train control.

These different sites are interconnected to the Computer Aided Maintenance Management (CMMS) software implemented within the company. It is used to manage supplier supplies and allows better traceability of maintenance operations.

CAMRAIL has motorized and towed rolling stock.

These include line locomotives, shunting locomotives and service equipment.

CAMRAIL has extensive industrial and logistics equipment, specific to rail operations, to maintain the track and ensure safe operation. These include  

  • 14 worksite track units
  • A track testing machine (Plasser EM 80),Plasser EM 80),
  • A tamper and;
  • A resurfacing machine (track work).

CAMRAIL has a diversified fleet of 32 locomotives in operation. 14-line haul machines have been acquired since 2022. They include

 

  • 6 CC 2600 locomotives in 2002, fitted with MD GM "EMD 645" engines designed in South Africa
  • 2 NREC CC 3300 locomotives in 2010, offering 3,300 hp
  • 6 CC 2500 locomotives delivered in 2013, offering 2,500 hp and a 19 tons axle load
  • 5 General Electric CC 3300 locomotives, built in the USA and delivered in January 2019, offer 3,300 hp. These locomotives are mainly used for transporting hydrocarbons and freight
  • 4 other General Electric locomotives were acquired by the State of Cameroon and delivered in January 2019. These locomotives are used exclusively for passenger services

CAMRAIL has a fleet of 12 shunting locomotives. They are dedicated to passenger trains and train shunting in main stations. They provide

  • 4 passenger shuttle trains linking Ngaoundéré to BélaboYaoundé to Douala, and Kumba to Mbanga respectively
  • Train formation operations at : Bessengue (1), Port of Douala (2), Bélabo (1) and Ngaoundéré (1).
