ABOUT US
ABOUT US
CAMRAIL, within the framework of a Public Private Partnership, has been the operator of the national railway network of Cameroon since January 19, 1999. The subsidiary of Africa Global Logistics which started its activities on April 1, 1999, was selected following a 3-year auction process.
Under the State-CAMRAIL concession agreement, the rail operator is responsible for:
- Technical and commercial management of rail transport services
- Maintenance, development and operation of rail infrastructure,
- The day-to-day management of the nearly 1,000 km-long rail network, in addition to the transport of people and goods
- CAMRAIL is the delegated contracting authority and prime contractor for the State's investments in the railway sector.
Successful public-private partnership
The partnership between the State of Cameroon and CAMRAIL is one of the most successful public-private railway partnerships in sub-Saharan Africa. Three dialogue frameworks ensure the coherence of railroad policy in Cameroon: the COMIFER (Interministerial Committee for Railway Infrastructures), the CTV (Passenger Transport Committee) and the Concession Monitoring Committee
This ongoing dialogue has enabled us to adapt the contractual framework of the concession to the contingencies of the rail business. Two amendments to the concession agreement were signed. The 1st in 2005 and the 2nd in 2008. The 2nd amendment sets out five-year investment plans. A Passenger Transport agreement was also signed on February 04, 2011.
These developments have resulted in the ongoing modernization of Cameroon's railway infrastructure.
