The main medical center in Douala is also open to local populations for certain procedures. It was thus certified by the Cameroonian Ministry of Public Health as a care unit for people living with HIV/AIDS and is also an approved vaccination center, particularly for pregnant women and newborns during campaigns organized occasionally for the benefit of local populations. More than 33,000 consultations are carried out each year in CAMRAIL medical centers and the company invests nearly 400 million each year for health expenses. The company has also taken out health insurance on behalf of its staff and their family members, with a reimbursement system for their medical expenses which covers 80%. Support for families and beneficiaries concerns 6,000 people on average.

SUPPORTING LOCAL DEVELOPMENT

CAMRAIL supports local development through youth training and community policy.

Youth training

In order to perpetuate its expertise and anticipate its staffing needs, CAMRAIL is partnering with a leading institution in Cameroon: the Institut de Formation Professionnelle aux Métiers Ferroviaires en Afrique centrale (IMEFAC). The collaboration with this two institution is aimed at training young Cameroonian graduates in basic railway trades. Since 2017, CAMRAIL has been able to train over 413 young people in various railway trades. The company has invested more than 300 million CFA francs in this project, covering 50% of the competition and training costs, and 100% of the costs of medical examinations and psycho-technical tests.

CAMRAIL also has a Douala-based training center for railway professions, whose courses focus on 3 disciplines (15-day to 6-month cycles):

  • Transport (traction / operation / station trades) ;
  • Equipment maintenance (rolling stock and lifting equipment);
  • Infrastructure (track and engineering structures)

Every year, 1,000 to 1,200 employees (65% of the workforce) benefit from CAMRAIL's training programs.
