THE EBAKA QUARRY
THE EBAKA QUARRY
Ballast production has made it possible to meet the needs of the railways not only for the renewal of the PQ1 ballast track, but also for our track maintenance requirements. Sales by the quarry to third parties, notably of aggregates produced (not meeting railway ballast specifications) and ballast used by CAMRAIL for maintenance work, generated a margin of 1.3 billion FCFA , which was added to the State's financial contribution.

With the support of the French government, we have redeveloped a quarry located in Bélabo as part of the Five-Year Plan n°1 (PQ1). The 12-hectare quarry was opened in 1974 to meet the maintenance needs of the recently completed Transcam 2.
It was successively operated by three companies between 1974 and 2007: COGEFAR, SNCIC (Société Nouvelle de Commerce et d'Industrie du Cameroun) and SST (Société Sahélienne des Travaux).
In order to meet the needs of the track rehabilitation work under the Five-Year Plan No. 1, as well as track maintenance, a project for the resumption and modernization of the quarry was drawn up in agreement with the government and financed by the World Bank. The resumption of quarry operations under PQ1 was formalized on August 31, 2013, with an official inauguration by the Minister of Transport, two years after its effective restart.
This quarry met the needs of PQ1, producing the bi-block sleepers and most of the ballast required to rehabilitate the Batchenga - Ka'a section of track.
